Uniting Barwon

About Us

UnitingCare Geelong is now part of Uniting Vic.Tas – the community services arm of the Uniting Church in Victoria and Tasmania. We are 24 Uniting Church agencies that have come together to combine our resources and experience for greater change. We work alongside people of all ages in local communities across Victoria and Tasmania. Working together we can do this more effectively for more people.

We are there for people in need of support, care, emergency financial help and crisis housing support. Through our service centres in Grovedale, Norlane and Winchelsea. we make sure local people have the basics: food clothes and help with travel costs.

Our Services

Emergency Relief

We work to empower people with the information, skills and tools they need to live a healthy, happy life. Sometimes it doesn’t take much for bills to spiral out of control. Individuals and families hit with unexpected expenses can quickly see their household budgets overwhelmed. Unemployment, illnesses or even back-to-school costs may leave people unable to pay the bills.

People experiencing the effects of poverty often need support while they focus on building brighter days ahead. Uniting Emergency Relief services provide immediate financial and/or material support to people in financial crisis.

We provide support to individuals and families residing in the Geelong area in the form of material aid – food, clothing and household goods, back-to-school costs, bill payment assistance and financial counselling to people living in disadvantage. We distribute donated food and other items to those that need it from our dedicated premises.

Our Microfinance and No Interest Loan Service (NILS) is available for individuals and families on low incomes facing financial hardship. The no interest loans help them pay for big expenses, such as car repairs, furniture and electrical appliances.

Resilient communities

There are many factors which lead people to resort to rough sleeping. Many of our clients have become homeless after a personal, family or financial crisis. This could be ill health, relationship breakdown or becoming unemployed.

Through our Linkage Outreach Worker program, we have established a housing hub for people who are homeless or in danger of becoming homeless. Our housing and homelessness services connect people to temporary and ongoing accommodation

We welcome individuals and families newly arrived or settling in Australia and offer case support and accommodation, as well as social and learning activities.

Op Shops

Our six Op Shops run by dedicated volunteers and staff offer a wide range of reasonably priced clothing, accessories, manchester, books, toys and households goods – with every single purchase helping to create better, safer and healthier lives for vulnerable people.

Our Op Shops are situated at Ormond Road, Drysdale, Point Lonsdale, Corio, Hamlyn Heights and Highton.
