Uniting Care Tasmania is now part of Uniting Vic.Tas – the community services arm of the Uniting Church in Victoria and Tasmania. We are 24 Uniting Church agencies that have come together to combine our resources and experience for greater change. We work alongside people of all ages in local communities across Victoria and Tasmania. Working together we can do this more effectively for more people.
At Uniting Tasmania we support vulnerable people to improve their health, wellbeing, and feel included in their community.
We provide a range of services, including early childhood education and care centres, emergency relief for people in crisis, and a range of programs to support struggling families. Our support services are available across Hobart, Launceston and Ulverstone.
Every Tasmanian has a right to live safe from harm. We work alongside children, youth and families to set goals, develop their skills and strengthen relationships that enable them to thrive. Where staying in the primary home isn’t possible we provide residential care, foster care, kinship care, adoption and permanent care services.
Young Parent Support Program
We know raising a family can be hard and no two are the same, which is why it’s okay to ask for help. We offer support to pregnant women and parents under 25 to help them provide a safe, nurturing home for their children.
Families set their own goals and decide on the things they want to change or improve to make a safe and caring environment for their children.
New Parent Information Network (NEWPIN)
NEWPIN is a two-day a week program designed to help break the cycle of abuse and neglect for new parents. The course focuses on parenting skills and the importance of bonding between a parent and child. Parents who are in prison can take part in a similar program that helps them maintain relationships with their children or rebuild them after release.
We can connect families with other services too, such as hospitals or schools, to make sure that the assistance they require is available when and where it’s needed.
Grandparents raising Grandchildren
Sometimes it is difficult or impossible for children to live with their birth parents. Grandparents and kinship carers therefore can become the primary carers of children and young people. Our Grandparents Raising Grandchildren program offers family support, advocacy, information and referral services to grandparent and kinship families across North West and South Tasmania.
Rural Outreach Support
The Rural Outreach worker program provides case-managed support to families across the Central and Southern Midlands to meet their critical needs in isolated areas.
Our family reunification service provide parents with intensive, wrap-around support to help them recover and strengthen their capacity to provide a safe environment for their children. This service is available to families whose children have been removed into out of home care and who Child Protection have identified as suitable as suitable candidates to work towards reunification on either a fulltime care, or occasional access basis.
We support children and families to create, learn and grow through high-quality education and care services. Early childhood is a time of exploration, creativity and discovery. We offer long day care for children from birth to 4 years in Hobart and family day care/occasional care in Launceston for children ranging from birth to 7 years.
We work to empower people with the information, skills and tools they need to live a healthy, happy life. Sometimes it doesn’t take much for bills to spiral out of control. Individuals and families hit with unexpected expenses can quickly see their household budgets overwhelmed. Unemployment, illnesses or even back-to-school costs may leave people unable to pay the bills.
We provide support to Tasmanian individuals and families in the form of material aid – food, clothing and household goods, back-to-school costs, access to online communication channels, bill payment assistance and financial counselling to people living in disadvantage.
Our Microfinance and No Interest Loan Service (NILS) is available for individuals and families on low incomes facing financial hardship. The no interest loans help them pay for big expenses, such as car repairs, furniture and electrical appliances.
We operate a remote Travelling Opportunity Shop (TOP Shop) throughout the Southern Midlands and Central Highlands. Run by dedicated volunteers and staff, our TOP Shop offers a wide range of reasonably price clothing, accessories, manchester, books, toys and households goods – with every single purchase helping to create better, safer and healthier lives for vulnerable people across Tasmania.
The TOP Shop creates an additional opportunity to support our Emergency Relief programs, which helps Uniting Tasmania provide much needed support for vulnerable people in our community.
Our support services are available across Hobart, Launceston and Ulverstone. You can use the map to find descriptions and contact details for each location.
