A new book, The Victoria Cross – Australia Remembers, photographed by ex-veteran and Uniting volunteer Gordon Traills, and written by award-winning author Michael Madden, was launched earlier this week.

The heartfelt book shares stories from the families of 100 Australian servicemen awarded the Victoria Cross for their great acts of bravery.

Michael and Gordon travelled around Australia, meeting nearly 100 families to hear their stories. “After these chats, we’d get into our car, and just sit there in awe. It been a really special journey to be a part of. I always wanted to give something special to my kids, and I couldn’t imagine a better legacy than to be published in a book like this.”

Over 800 people attended the launch on the book, including Executive Officer of Uniting Prahran, Stav Stathopoulos. “It was a delight to attend and support Gordon, someone who has supported our GriefWorks services and veterans through the arts for the last few years. And while it was an emotional time – some have been in war, some had lost loved ones because of war – it was also a real privilege to come for such an event. There was a real sense of community and family on the day.”

All proceeds from the purchase of this book will be go to TPI Victoria Inc for its members, their families and the veteran community.
